I went for a job interview a couple of weeks ago and the interviewers asked what I was interested and how I liked spending my free time. I haven’t thought of that question in awhile so I responded pathetically with, “I like playing soccer? and hanging out with my friends…?” They had to prompt me, because they had read a few post on my blog and saw that I liked the Blue Jays. Needless to say I didn’t get hired. However, it has prompted me to start getting back into things I liked to do and expand on the interests I currently have.

Things I like doing:
Reading: I love reading. Harry Potter is my favourite. I actually read the entire series to the 9 year old boy I was looking after as an au pair. Recently I joined a sci-fi/fantasy book club at work and the first book we’re reading is Brave New World. Oh and I’m also on the Game of Thrones bandwagon – you should probably hop on as well.
Golfing:¬†Even though I’m not great at it I always enjoy going out for a round of golf with my Dad.
Photography: I love taking pictures of people and whenever my friends and I go for adventures I’m alway the one with a camera.
Soccer: I’ve been playing soccer since I was 4, so its always been a big part of my life.

That’s all I can think of right now, but I’m sure I’ll post a part II soon enough.

Big thanks to Carly for taking all these lovely pictures! Be sure to check out her blog Style Snapshot.

Lots of love,

Kate

Motivation has always been something I’ve struggled with and that’s why I always seem to take prolonged absenses from blogging. However, I met up with Carly this past Friday and we just had to take some outfit pictures! In July we drove by this motel along Dallas Rd. and both had the exact same thought – “this would be amazing for photos!” So two months later here we are.

This is my take on the sporty trend that keeps popping up on blogs and lookbooks of late. I bought my Blue Jays hat when I was in Toronto in August just before I watched them lose epically to the Oakland A’s 14-6. I still love them. But not everyone has love for the Jays. I had a guy come into my work while I was wearing my hat and offer me $30 to burn it. A little extreme, but sports fans are their own type of crazy. All I could do was laugh.

Lots of love,

Kate

NOTHING IS NEW

_MG_0576_MG_0479_MG_0518_MG_0870_MG_0771_MG_0868_MG_0873_MG_0663wearing: everything is thrifted or from the Victoria Vintage Fair

photos by Carly Dame

I can’t remember the last time I wore a completely thrifted/secondhand look. I think this outfit works because all of the pieces are in excellent condition and fit well. For example my blazer is Ralph Lauren and my shoes are leather and made in Italy. The other pictures in this post are of street performers in downtown Victoria and a Friday night market (no, I do not know that man…).

I woke up to jackhammering this morning, was about to curse the neighbours, then realized it was coming from my house. My parents are renovating the basement, so I’m sure I’ll have many more months of being awoken by jakhammers, chainsaws, table saws and other loud obnoxious power tools. Yes.

I went to the Victoria Vintage Fair this past weekend and found a gorgeous beaded, sequin top and pretty white slip that I’ll probably need another slip for because it’s so transparent. There was a summer market next to the vintage fair so I had to sample some ice cream and other goodies.

Lots of love,

FADED PAINT

DSC_0354 DSC_0357DSC_0451 DSC_0403DSC_0396wearing: zara sandals, everything else is thrifted

photos by Carly Dame

Sometimes it just happens that a whole outfit consists of thrift store purchases. On these days I feel ethically good and bargain happy. So I hope you enjoy these edgy, street chic, badass with an attitude pictures as much as I do.

So my mom was trying to assemble an Ikea dresser today and my dog Callahan saw fit to “help” her. Hilarity ensued with him climbing on top of the box, sniffing the scissors suspiciously, taunting us with a piece of Ikea box he was prancing around with and generally just lying perfectly in the way. I don’t know if any work will get done…

Lots of love,

Kate

NICHE INSPIRATION BALL

wearing: thrifted top, assorted jewelry, La Fee Verte skirt from Still Life for Her, thrifted purse, Zara Sandals

photos by me and Carly Dame

On Saturday I attended the Niche Inspiration Ball¬†with Carly and it was quite the experience. Think red carpet, fancy hotel, gowns galore, sapphire blue cocktails, white table cloths, too many forks and spoons to count, an exuberant live auction and memories to last a lifetime. I felt slightly underdressed, but seeing as I only bought my ticket on Thursday, I didn’t feel too bad. My skirt is La Fee Verte from Still Life for Her which I bought last year as an absolute splurge, my heels are from Zara and my purse and top are thrifted.

Once Carly and I walked the red carpet we snuck off to take some pictures in Empress Hotel’s lovely garden. I think we will definitely be back to take some more photos, even though tourists are always milling around. Once we were back inside it was time for dinner which consisted of a pear salad, herb crusted salmon and creme brulee for dessert. Nom! The live auction followed dinner and after that ended there was more mingling and Carly and I had the opportunity to meet Niche editor-in-chief Tracey Drake.

All the proceeds from the Inspiration Ball will go towards the the Cridge Transition House for Women and the Women for Women International Education Program.

Lots of love,

Kate
